Wedgewood Marina sold – no public access as of June 1

Posted on April 22, 2024

BLPOA TMLB Letter to AH MH Councils 22Apr24

Please find a copy of a joint letter sent today to the Township Councils of both Algonquin Highlands and Minden Hills concerning the removal of the boat ramp currently in place at Wedgewood Marina.

Over 800 property owners are affected and may leave many with NO WAY to remove their boats in the fall.

Boshkung Lake Property Owners Association (BLPOA) and Twelve Mile Little Boshkung Lakes (TMLB) are pursuing an initiative to find other solutions to this issue.

We anticipate that both Algonquin Highlands’ and Minden Hill’s Councils will work together to solve this serious dilemma.

A Note from C.H.A. re Shoreline Preservation By-Law

Posted on September 7, 2020

Watch this Wednesday

As you know the C.H.A. with support from you our members has been encouraging the County to act to protect the natural shoreline we have left with a Shoreline Preservation by law

In June 2018 the then Warden told us it was coming soon

In 2019 our members voted unanimously to support it

There followed over 20 public meetings

Then this past February a draft by law was introduced to County Council after over 3000 people had commented on the comment website – the overwhelming majority were positive

Then the landscapers and some of the builders – very few of whom actually read and understood the proposal organized a loud opposition

County Council decided that they needed more public consultation – which was quickly put on hold under the pandemic

This summer saw unprecedented shoreline destruction on many of our lakes - we cannot wait for the pandemic to be over to get this by law in place!

County Staff will be presenting to the Committee of The Whole a potential way forward this Wednesday

We encourage you to watch this at the link below

What we have asked for in the by law is clear

We want to protect the remaining vegetation we have left through a system that requires a permit before work can begin and strong penalties for those who do not comply

If you do not like the way your local Mayor and deputy Mayor are leaning – based on your viewing this Wednesday – let them know before they vote on this at County Council 2 weeks from now

If you approve – please let them know you support protecting our lakes through a permit based shoreline preservation by law

The C.H.A. cannot do this on its own we need you to support us as the opposition is well organized

On Wednesday September 9, 2020 the County of Haliburton Committee of the Whole will receive, review and provide direction to staff regarding the proposed Shoreline Preservation By-law, Public Consultation and Communication.

The meeting can be viewed on the County of Haliburton YouTube Channel:

The meeting agenda will be published on Monday September 7, 2020 and can be found:

Chinese Mystery Snails

TMLB Co-President Jennifer Graham and I are involved with a group from other lake associations, CHA, MNRF, OFAH discussing the invasion of Chinese Mystery Snails in Haliburton. The purpose of the group is to learn:

• What are Mystery snails?

• Where do they live/ eat?

• How do they affect aquatic ecosystems (I.e native snail populations)?

• Identification characteristics

• How do I report observations?

We will provide further information to members.
